About Sean Hantes
Hi, I’m Sean.
I grew up in Rochester, studied at the University of Rochester, played professional soccer for the Rochester Lancers, and built my career helping University of Rochester professionals make clear, confident financial decisions. Rochester has shaped who I am, both personally and professionally.
My path into financial planning did not start with markets or spreadsheets. It started with conversations.
Before becoming a financial advisor, I helped coworkers understand their workplace 401(k) options.
Watching confusion turn into clarity changed the direction of my work. I realized that financial planning is not about products or predictions. It is about helping people understand their options and make decisions they feel good about.
That realization led me to pursue this work intentionally. I wanted a career built on trust, not transactions. Relationships that grow over time, not one-time interactions.
Today, I work primarily with University of Rochester professionals in their 50s and 60s who are preparing for retirement and thinking carefully about what comes after work.
My goal is simple: to bring all the moving parts of your financial life together so decisions feel clear, intentional, and aligned with what matters most to you.
I focus on serving University of Rochester professionals because this work feels personal. Many of my friends, family members, and former classmates are part of the University community. I understand the benefits, challenges, and tradeoffs that shape these financial lives, and I care deeply about getting this right.
Outside of work, I spend time with my partner, Chelsea, our daughter, Josie, and our bulldog, Otis. Like many families, much of that time is spent keeping up with everyday life and breaking down a steady stream of Amazon boxes that seem to appear on their own.
I am a Rochester native at heart, and the idea behind Meliora, always better, still guides the way I approach my work each day.
